Award winning Comfort Food Cabaret takes a taste of SA to the Edinburgh Fringe

Australia's very own singing cook, Michelle Pearson, is set to take her award-winning cooking cabaret to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August and is filling her suitcase with products from South Australian brand, Premium Choice.  

The privately owned, SA company, Priority Health, who manufacture and distribute the Premium Choice range throughout Australia have supported Pearson's unique musical-foodie experience since 2017 by supplying complimentary product and assisting with recipe development. Priority Health are passionate about working with local talent and supporting local initiatives which boost the economy.

Comfort Food Cabaret walks a line between cooking demonstration, pop-up restaurant, traditional musical cabaret and late night supper club. The multiple formats of the show have paved out a rewarding career for its creator who was originally a singer and most recently a budding home-cook.

The show can be presented as an 85 minute 'Fringe Style' performance where the audience are served small tastes of three dishes created by Michelle and her team and it can also be performed as a longer style dinner party where guests get a taste of Michelle's popular hospitality and enjoy full-size meals and matching wines. In Edinburgh, Michelle and her traveling kitchen crew will perform the shorter format and showcase a range of South Australian, Premium Choice products. The announcement, is perfect timing to coincide with the brands recent packaging re-launch and new fresher tastes better satisfaction guarantee.

Playing at the Edinburgh Fringe is a bucket list opportunity for Michelle after receiving widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences after sell out seasons at the 2017 and 2018 Adelaide Fringe Festivals, 2017 Melbourne Fringe and 2018 Tasting Australia.

"I am so proud of Comfort Food Cabaret and I feel that it encompasses so much of SA's food culture and love of fresh produce. To be supported by Premium Choice is incredible and it gives us a confidence in what we do as we've worked with the products many times before. We're also excited to showcase local almonds in our dessert and promote SA as a great region for food and wine."

After a chance meeting at the Adelaide Fringe in 2017 with the Christensen family, Copenhagen business identities and entrepreneurs, Michelle and her small team were invited to perform the show at a private function in Copenhagen. Together with the support of the Made in Adelaide program and the support of the Christensen family, Michelle was able to secure a popular presenter in Edinburgh and organise a two-week season at the Edinburgh Newtown Cookery School.

Although some of the expenses have been covered, Michelle is raising money to help cover the costs of venue hire, professional lighting and sound so that Comfort Food Cabaret is presented in its best possible light. Michelle has organised a fundraising gig which is suitable titled, Turn the lights on - Edinburgh Fringe Fundraiser, that will take place at The Jade on Saturday 7 July from 8pm. Tickets are $35 each and the audience can expect an evening of intimate cabaret performed by Michelle and a four-piece band with a few special guests. This will be the first cabaret style show (without the cooking) Michelle has performed since launching Comfort Food Cabaret and the SA born singer/performer is keen to get back to where it all began.

In addition to the fundraising gig, Michelle has registered her fundraising project with the Australia Culture Fund which facilitates tax deductible donations to individual artists. This fantastic fundraising platform means that anyone can donate to the Comfort Food Cabaret fundraiser and donations over $2 are tax deductable.

Michelle will be joined in Edinburgh by local musician and Comfort Food Cabaret musical director, Aaron Nash and her cooking/production crew, Todd Lemmer, Rhiannon Groutsch and Stacey Quinn. Together with her small team, Michelle hopes to deliver the perfect playlist to accompany this taste of South Australia with songs from artists as diverse as Ella Fitzgerald to Katy Perry and Cold Chisel reflecting the role food and the culture of cooking has played in Michelle's childhood, romantic encounters, family and friendships.
